I first heard about the amount of traffic coming from Wikipedia via Marko Nikolic at Gnostic Designs.  Then today I came across this. Has anyone else used Wikipedia to drive traffic and if so what kinda of results have you seen?

The practice of using anchor text to make a page show up in the SERPs under keywords that are out of context for that page.
For instance, if you want your competitors page to be #1 on Google for “absolute moron”, you’d get as many people as
possible to link to their page using “abosute moron” as anchor text.

Google bombing can of course also be used to create a positive effect.
In theory you could get your own site listed at the top for very targeted
keywords using the same technique.

Both these uses are of course aimed at manipulating search results and as such one could consider it spam or maybe just good SEO?

Has anyone had success with this method?

The word is that very small pages rank highest in MSN? They say this is why doorways
and blogspots rank so well. The content reduced from 22k to about 5k. Within 2 days, the
page went from page 5 to page 1 for a competitive phrase.

So has anyone else tested this?

I’ve moved onto something fresh for 07. Not much here yet and still some bugs to hunt down and fix. Just ported over the WordPress from my desktop server “MAMP”.
