iPhoney, not an iPhone simulator

Tuesday, February 19th, 2008

I’ve just recently been working on a project that required the purchase of some .mobi domains.  It just so happens that one of my favorite apps and most used Daylight by Marketcircle, makes iPhoney.  iPhoney is an open source project for web designers who want to build and test web sites for the iPhone.  We all know that everyone in the world has an iPhone.  Here are some of iPhoneys features for you mac savvy web designers.

  • View source to see the source code for the page you’re viewing, great for checking iPhone targeted pages.
  • Localized for Norwegian (Thanks to Fredrik W.), French, and German users.
  • Test your iPhone-enabled Web 2.0 applications and compatible web sites.
  • Open any website that works with Safari (use Safari 3 beta for the most accurate experience).
  • Rotate to see websites in either portrait or landscape orientation.
  • Show or hide the location bar for a full-screen iPhone experience.
  • Simulate the iPhone user agent, to test browser redirection scripts.
  • Zoom out to see how your current pages might look while zoomed out on iPhone.
  • Turn off plug-ins (including Flash, but note that they all turn off (including QuickTime).
  • Automatic updates with Sparkle, so you’ll always know if there’s a new version.
  • And of course, open source code so you can contribute to iPhoney’s rapid development.

Who broke my iPhone?

Tuesday, October 2nd, 2007

Bloggers and hackers aren’t the only ones sticking it to iPhone maker Apple Inc. for its closed minded approach to user-customization of the touch-screen handsets — Nokia has taken advantage of the situation by launching a print and web campaign dubbed “Open to anything.”

“We believe the best devices have no limits. That’s why we’ve left the Nokia Nseries open,” the Finland-based handset maker wrote on its new “Open to anything” website. “Open to applications. Open to widgets. Open to anything. So go ahead and load it up. What it does is up to you.”

Make FREE Ringtones with iTunes

Friday, September 14th, 2007

“Many iPhone users are learning to their surprise that they can make ringtones from only a relatively small number of songs.”

So you’ve come to find out that you can’t get your favorite song as a ringtone for only a $1. Well Apple will help you make a
ringtone for free with iTunes. Ready?

Step 1:
Find the song you want to convert in your iTunes Library. Make a playlist called ringtones and put your song(s) in the playlist.

Step 2:
You will need to cut the song to about 30 seconds in length. Go to File -> Get Info -> Options. Here you will set the Start and Stop to 30 seconds.

Step 3:
Next you will need to set iTunes to convert your music to 22 khz Sample Rate and Channels to mono encoding.

Step 4:
Right click on the song to convert selection to mp3.

Step 5:
Using your bluetooth connection send the audio files to your phone. If you don’t have bluetooth you can use a USB Bluetooth adapter.

Browse to you new ringtone and select it.

iphone-sim-free.jpg“Again: we can confirm with 100% certainty that iPhoneSIMfree.com’s software solution completely SIM unlocks the iPhone, is restore-resistant, and should make the iPhone fully functional for users outside of the US.”

The requirements: The minimum order is 50 licenses. This is not negotiable. Any order below, please contact one of our reseller in the where to buy section.

We offer price breaks for 50, 100, 250, 500, 1000, 2500 and 5000 licenses.

Now I’ve already done a few searches and you can find people who have bought licenses and will unlock your phone for as little as $50.00. I’m just surprised it took so long. Now with the price drop on the iPhone and I can use my current service I may just pick one up now.

Why it pays to be in the know

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

I’m up at 6am and working till midnight almost seven days a week. During this time I’m constantly doing research on everything from code to products such as apple. I had just recently bought an iMac 17inch which I thought was pretty cool and cheap at $1200. The other day I was doing a little research and found people talking about rumors about Apple launching a new iMac. They were talking about aluminum case, glass screen, and new keyboard among many of other features. So what did I do? I returned that iMac 17inch on the 29th day for a full refund and ordered a brand new 20inch for the same price. Nice huh. So all I’m saying is it pays to be in the know, constantly educating yourself in every aspect.
