How to: Sell for $1M

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007

Most people do not have the proper attitude, personality, or personal situation (kids to feed?) to grind it out for 3 or 4 years. You have to wake up, work the 8 to 5 job, come home, lift a few weights, eat dinner, then work 7 to midnight on the side project (which, if it yields any profits, are most likely reinvested).

So, if you can’t/are scared to/aren’t able to grind it out for a few years, this guide isn’t going to help you.

The 7 habits

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

Habit 1 - Be Proactive

Proactive people simply will not accept that there is nothing that can be done about the unreasonable boss or the events of daily life - they will point out that there are always choices. It is by the decisions we make, our responses to people, events and circumstances that proactive people can and do affect the future.

Habit 2 - Begin with the End in Mind

Being successful at their chosen career and committed to its progress they come to realise that it does not, in the final analysis, bring any sense of real satisfaction. The reason for this ultimate dissatisfaction is that they did not begin with the end in mind.

Habit 3 - First Things First

It plots the concepts of urgency and importance against each other; and represents where you are spending your time. To really understand and apply this habit, you need to have first done habit 2 - that is, you should already have defined what is important to you. Without first doing this, habit 3 has no power because you simply cannot separate what is important from what is not important.

Habit 4 - Think Win Win

The next of the 7 Habits is - Think Win-Win. This habit is again an attitude of mind. It concerns fostering an attitude that is committed to always finding solutions that will truly benefit both sides of a dispute.

Habit 5 - Seek First to Understand then be Understood

The fifth habit is - Seek First to Understand. What most people do, naturally, when involved in some type of discussion, meeting or dialogue is exactly the reverse - they seek first to be understood.

Habit 6 - Synergize

The sixth of the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is - Synergize. This habit involves you putting your head together with the other party or parties in order to creatively brainstorm a synergistic solution to a problem i.e. to find a solution which contains win-win benefits.

Habit 7 - Sharpen the Saw

Highly Effective People always take time to Sharpen the Saw. What is meant by Sharpening the Saw is to regularly engage in the exercise of the three dimensions which make up the human condition: body, mind and spirit.

  • Spiritual Exercise
  • Physical Exercise
  • Mental Exercise
  • Interpersonal

12 steps to becoming a leader

Friday, April 20th, 2007

1. Set goals for your life; not just for your job. What we think of as “meaning of life goals affect your lifestyle outside of work too, and you get whole-life context, not just work-life, each feeding off the other.

2. Practice discretion constantly, and lead with the example of how your own good behavior does get great results. Otherwise, why should anyone follow you when you lead?

3. Take initiative. Volunteer to be first. Be daring, bold, brave and fearless, willing to fall down, fail, and get up again for another round. Starting with vulnerability has this amazing way of making us stronger when all is done.

4. Be humble and give away the credit. Going before others is only part of leading; you have to go with them too. Therefore, they’ve got to want you around!

5. Learn to love ideas and experiments. Turn them into pilot programs that preface impulsive decisions. Everything was impossible until the first person did it.

6. Live in wonder. Wonder why, and prize “Why not? as your favorite question. Be insatiably curious, and question everything.

7. There are some things you don’t take liberty with no matter how innovative you are when you lead. For instance, to have integrity means to tell the truth. To be ethical is to do the right thing. These are not fuzzy concepts.

8. Believe that beauty exists in everything and in everyone, and then go about finding it. You’ll be amazed how little you have to invent and much is waiting to be displayed.

9. Actively reject pessimism and be an optimist. Say you have zero tolerance for negativity and self-fulfilling prophecies of doubt, and mean it.

10. Champion change. As the saying goes, those who do what they’ve always done, will get what they’ve always gotten. The only things they do get more of are apathy, complacency, and boredom.

11. Be a lifelong learner, and be a fanatic about it. Surround yourself with mentors and people smarter than you. Seek to be continually inspired by something, learning what your triggers are.

12. Care for and about people. Compassion and empathy become you, and keep you ever-connected to your humanity. People will choose you to lead them.

Top 10 Reasons to Set Up a Corporation

Friday, April 20th, 2007

The corporation has been described as one of the great inventions of mankind. An entity on its own, the corporation exists separate from the personal fortunes of its founders, can pass from their hands intact, and may even outlive them. It pays its own taxes, can be sued in its own name and may have many owners in the form of shareholders over time.

There are many advantages of doing business in this structure. So, let’s look at the top 10 reasons to set up a corporation.

1. Protection from liability

This probably ranks number one among the top 10 reasons to set up a corporation because of the limited liability that the corporate structure affords its owners. Theoretically, the corporation is responsible for its debts and obligations. This benefit is not absolute though and has boundaries. The corporate veil may be pierced under certain circumstances and shareholders of a new or small corporation may be asked to give personal guarantees when trying to obtain financing.

2. Ability to Raise Capital

One of the top 10 reasons to set up a corporation is the increased ability to raise capital, when compared to a sole proprietorship or partnerships. Outside investors may be enticed by the tax benefits and limited liability offered by corporations. The flexible nature of the capital structure in corporations allows them to address a wide variety of investors with varying needs.

3. Choice of Tax Year

Tax law allows corporations (except S corporations) to freely choose their fiscal tax year, which may be different from the calendar year. The corporation can select the tax year most advantageous to the business and most appropriate a fit to its natural business cycle.

4. Business Continuity

This is not too obvious a benefit but certainly important enough to be one of the top 10 reasons to set up a corporation. The corporation can survive its founders provided that it complies with state and federal regulations.

5. Centralized Management

Shareholders in the corporation possess the right to vote for and determine the board of directors of the corporation, who in turn elect the officers of the corporation. This affords control.

6. Transferability of Ownership

In contrast to the other forms of business entity, the ownership interest of a corporation is easily transferred. Barring any prohibitive agreement among shareholders, or restrictions in the articles of incorporation or bylaws, shares of stock may be bought and sold freely.

7. Corporate Identity

Shareholders benefit from the sense of image and stability of a corporation.

8. Tax Savings

Corporations are taxed at a lower rate than individuals. They can own shares in other corporations and receive corporate dividends 80% tax free. This is certainly one of the top 10 reasons to set up a corporation.

9. Less Risk of IRS Audit

The probabilities of IRS audits on corporations are lower than on individuals, and disallowances are likely to be less.

10. Employee Benefit Plans

The last, but not the least of the top 10 reasons to set up a corporation, can be found in employee benefit plans. The owners of a corporation may be in a position to take advantage of several IRS-qualified employee benefit plans that can be used both to compensate employees and to reduce the corporate income tax liability. Payment to these benefits gives the corporation a tax deduction and the shareholders may receive favorable tax treatment on the dividends arising from it.

// three ways to increase your intelligence

Thursday, April 12th, 2007

1. Continually expand the scope, source, intensity of the information you receive.
2. Constantly revise your reality maps, and seek new metaphors about the future to understand what’s happening now.
3. Develop external networks for increasing intelligence. In particular, spend all your time with people as smart or smarter than you.

Daniel Vasquez, D.D.S. - Vista, California - Worst Dentist in San Diego

Monday, March 26th, 2007

Dr. Daniel Vasquez and his Advanced Cosmetic Dentistry in San Diego is among the worst. Using the latest techniques and technologies combined with quality patient care, our practice strives to provide the incredible dental experience for your entire family, don’t believe it. It’s more like cutting corners and trying to pad his pockets. With offices in Vista, California, I recommend you look for anther Dentist. I have the pictures and the documentation if anyone wants to get more information on Dr. Daniel Vasquez and his poor methods of dental practice. Keep in mind he is good at cutting corners and padding his pocket. I now have $2,000.00 plus dental correction to fix what Daniel Vasquez did wrong. Thought I would put this out so no one else has to be victim to Dr. Daniel Vasquez.
